Similarities between Prophets and Imam Mahdi

THE HADITH OF OUR PROPHET (SAAS) SAY THAT THE GREAT MAHDI OF THE END TIMES WILL BE SUBJECTED TO PRESSURE, DURESS AND OPPRESSION FROM THE SYSTEM OF THE DAJJAL, THAT HE WILL BE IMPRISONED AND LIVE WITH THE THREAT OF DEATH, THAT HIS HANDS AND FEET WILL BE CHAINED, THAT A COPPER TABLET WILL BE HUNG AROUND HIS NECK, THAT HE WILL BE ABANDONED TO SUFFERING AND TROUBLE AND THAT HE WILL BE ISOLATED.

1. Imam Zayn al-Abidin stated: "There are some similarities between our Qaim [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] and Allah's messengers. He has similarities to each one of prophet Nuh (as), Ibrahim (as), Musa (as), Isa (as), Ayyub (as) and Muhammad (saas).
He has similarity to NUH (as) in having a long life;
to IBRAHIM (as) in having his birth being hidden and his staying away from the public;
TO MUSA (AS) IN HIS STATE OF FEAR (THE INTENSITY OF DANGERS DIRECTED TO HAZRAT MAHDI (AS); HIS BEING FACE TO FACE TO ALL KINDS OF DANGER LIKE MURDER, PLOTTING, ARREST, TAKING INTO CUSTODY AND EXILE) AND HIS CONSTANTLY SPENDING HIS LIFE HIDING;
to ISA (as) in people being in conflict about him (some people will say Hazrat Mahdi (as) will come while others will say he will not);
to AYYUB (as) in being delivered to salvation after trouble (Hazrat Mahdi (as) will also suffer many difficulties, diseases and trouble; however just like Prophet Ayyub (as) he will be saved by Allah's mercy);
to Muhammad (saas) in his standing up with his sword [our Prophet's (saas) holy relics like his holy standard, sword and cardigan will be with Hazrat Mahdi (as)].

(Qamal al-Din, p. 322, Section 31, Hadith number 3)

2. Abu Bashir says: I heard Imam Muhammad Baqr (as) say: "HE WHO POSSESSES THIS OCCULTATION [HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)] WILL HAVE THE SUNNA OF FOUR PROPHETS. ONE SUNNA FROM THE PROPHET MUSA, ONE FROM THE PROPHET 'ISA (AS), ONE FROM THE PROPHET YUSUF (AS) AND ONE FROM THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAAS), may the peace of Allah be upon them all.
I SAID: WHAT IS THE SUNNA OF MUSA (AS)? HE SAID: TO WITHDRAW AND HIDE AWAY. I SAID: WHAT IS THE SUNNA OF 'ISA (AS)? AND HE SAID: WHAT IS SAID ABOUT 'ISA (AS) WILL ALSO BE SAID ABOUT HIM. I SAID, WHAT IS THE SUNNA OF YUSUF (AS)? AND HE SAID: IMPRISONMENT AND OCCULTATION. I SAID, WHAT IS THE SUNNA OF THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAAS)? HE SAID: HE WILL FOLLOW IN THE PATH OF THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH WHEN HE APPEARS. ONLY HE WILL ELUCIDATE THE WORKS OF THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH...I said: How will he know Allah's approval? And he said: "Allah will manifest His mercy in his heart."

(Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Nomani, al-Ghaybah al-Nomani, p. 191)

3. IN THE SAME WAY THAT NOBODY IN THE LIFE OF THIS WORLD CAN SEE THE RECORDING ANGELS ON EITHER SIDE OF PEOPLE, IF JIBRIL (AS) WHO FREQUENTLY BRINGS REVELATIONS COME WITHOUT BEING SEEN TO PEOPLE, THEN JIBRIL (AS) AND MIKHAIL (AS) AND THE 46,000 OTHER ANGEL HELPERS ALONGSIDE HAZRAT MAHDI (AS) WILL NOT BE VISIBLE, EITHER.

Developments in the Fields of Science and Technology during the Golden Age

Developments in the Fields of Science and Technology during the Golden Age

As revealed in verses of the Qur’an, in the times of The Prophet Sulayman (as) and Dhu’l-Qarnayn there were great advances in science and technology, advances that were quite unfamiliar for the time. For example, The Prophet Sulayman (as)’s use of molten copper (Surah Saba 12), the floor of the palace being made out of transparent glass (Surat Al-Naml 44), or Dhu’l-Qarnayn making use of a different technology to construct a wall between two mountains in order to prevent the strife of Yajuj and Majuj (Surat Al-Kahf, 96) are just a few instances of the advanced technology employed in these two periods.

When we examine those hadiths that describe the Golden Age we encounter a very similar situation.

There will be major advances in the fields of science, technology, communications and medicine in the Golden Age. Each new development will be placed at the service of all mankind and the lives of people all over the world will thus be improved. One of the signs in the hadiths on this subject is:

The end of a man's whip will speak to him.(Tirmidhi)

It is very likely that this hadith is referring to the mobile telephone, the most widespread means of communication in the present day. (Allah knows the truth.)

Another important sign in the hadiths regarding technological progress is:

People will reap 700 measures of wheat for every one they sow ... People will throw down a few handfuls of seeds and reap 700 handfuls ... Although much rain will fall, none will be wasted. (Ibn Hajar al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi `Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar, p. 24)

This hadith may be referring to modern agriculture, carried out by machines that are the products of technology. As we know, it used to be a very difficult process to sow the fields and gather in the harvest. However, advances in technology have also led to enormous progress in agriculture, and the production of new machinery has made life easier in terms of both sowing and harvesting. In addition, seed improvement has led to great advances in production. As technology advances, brand new techniques are being developed and productivity is increasing.

By Allah’s will, there will also be considerable advances in the time of the Mahdi, and the lives of people engaged in agriculture will thus be very much easier.

Zulfikar-the sword of Hazrat Ali (ra)

Zulfiqar (‘bifurcated’) is a well-known sword of Islamic history owned by Hazrat Ali, by many accounts, MuḼammad (PBUH) presented Zulfiqar to a young Ali at the Battle of Uhud. During the battle, Ali struck one of the fiercest adversaries, breaking both his helmet and his shield. Muhammad (PBUH) remarked “There is no hero but Ali and no sword except Zulfiqar”. By most historical accounts, Ali used the sword at the Battle of the Trench to cut a fierce Meccan opponent and his shield in two halves. The opponent was Amr ibn Abdawud, whose strength was often compared to that of a thousand men. No one had dared to fight him except Ali, who killed him with one powerful blow. Though Amr wore strong armor and carried powerful weapons, he is said to have been no match to Ali and his sword. The scimitar is one of the oldest and best known symbols of Islam. The sword was also used in the Battle of Karbala by Imam Hussain, and as a result it is seen as a symbol of honor and martyrdom. And it is now believed by the Shias to be in the possession of Imam Mehdi.
